Kestrel Announces Acquisition of Seven Barn2 Plugins

In a surprising move, Kestrel, a new venture by the former co-founders of SkyVerge, has announced its first acquisition. The company has acquired seven plugins from Barn2, a well-known name in the WordPress community. The details of the acquisition, including the amount paid, have not been disclosed.

Katie Keith, CEO of Barn2, had previously hinted at her plans to sell the plugins back in January. She expressed the desire to focus on the more profitable plugins and provide better support and value to their customers. The decision to sell some of their plugins was made to ensure that the remaining suite of plugins receives the attention it deserves.

The acquisition includes five premium plugins and two free plugins. Among the premium plugins are WooCommerce Variation Prices, WooCommerce Express Shop Page, WooCommerce Shipping Calculator, WooCommerce Product Sample, and WooCommerce Discontinued Products. The two free plugins included in the deal are WooCommerce Custom Add to Cart Button and Better Recent Comments.

Max Rice, Founding Engineer of Kestrel, expressed his excitement about the acquisition. He stated that they are thrilled to jump back into the WooCommerce space with the launch of Kestrel. Having worked with WooCommerce since 2012, Rice and his team are familiar with Barn2’s work and have great respect for their high-quality plugins.

Under the terms of the acquisition, existing annual and lifetime customers of the acquired plugins will continue to receive full support, updates, and maintenance from the Kestrel team. This ensures that customers’ investments are protected and they can continue to rely on the plugins they have purchased.

Barn2 also has plans in place for customers who purchased the acquired plugins through bundle plans and the All Access Pass plan. They will be provided with alternative options and solutions to ensure a seamless transition and uninterrupted service.

The acquisition marks an important milestone for Kestrel as they expand their presence in the WordPress ecosystem. With the addition of these plugins, they aim to provide even greater value and support to their customers.

Overall, this acquisition serves as a strategic move for both Kestrel and Barn2. Kestrel gains a set of high-quality plugins that align with their expertise in the WooCommerce space. Barn2 can now focus on their more profitable plugins and enhance the support and value they provide to their customers.

As the WordPress community eagerly awaits the future developments from Kestrel, it is clear that this acquisition sets the stage for exciting opportunities in the world of plugins and WordPress customization.
