Introducing Jetpack Creator: A New Tool for Monetizing Content and Subscribers

Jetpack, the popular WordPress plugin, has released its latest version, Jetpack 12.8, which includes an exciting new product called Jetpack Creator. This new tool is aimed at content creators who want to monetize their work and gain subscribers. With the creator economy rapidly growing, Jetpack Creator is poised to cater to the needs of this expanding market.

According to Goldman Sachs Research, the creator economy is projected to reach a staggering half-a-trillion dollars by 2027. This growth presents a massive opportunity for social networking apps and platforms to enhance their offerings and better serve independent creators. With the total addressable market of the creator economy expected to double in size to $480 billion by 2027, Jetpack Creator aims to tap into this lucrative market.

Jetpack Creator provides a comprehensive suite of monetization features for creators. It offers over 40 blocks that allow creators to paywall their content, add subscriber forms, accept donations, start newsletters, and receive payments through platforms like Stripe or PayPal. Creators can also import unlimited subscribers, an upgrade from the free Newsletter product that limits subscriber imports to 100.

One standout feature of Jetpack Creator is its “creator network.” Similar to ConvertKit’s creator network, this feature helps creators amplify their content and reach a broader audience across WordPress.com and self-hosted sites using Jetpack. By distributing content to more areas of WordPress.com’s Reader, Jetpack’s creator network aims to expose sites to new readers and boost their visibility.

Jetpack Creator also introduces author recommendations, powered by the Blogroll block. Site administrators can recommend other sites that their readers might enjoy and have their own site included in other recommendations as well. These recommendations are currently driven by an algorithm, but there are plans to make them more Blogroll-driven in the future.

In terms of tracking engagement, Jetpack offers various tools for creators. They can monitor general traffic stats, email open stats, WordAds revenue, and subscriber stats. Additionally, a new growth chart allows creators to visualize their progress since October 24. Jetpack also includes an Earn screen for those selling paid content, providing creators with a comprehensive overview of their monetization efforts.

Jetpack offers both a Free plan and a Creator plan. The Free plan gives users access to all the monetization tools for free but takes a 10% fee from revenue generated. In contrast, the Creator plan reduces the fees to 2% (plus Stripe fees), making it a more cost-effective option for successful online creators.

Jetpack’s product manager, Mike Stott, emphasizes the importance of user feedback in shaping the future development of Jetpack Creator. He highlights upcoming features such as bringing subscriber modal and categories settings into the Jetpack UI and making it easier for content creators to gain more subscribers through the creator network.

With Jetpack Creator, content creators now have a powerful tool at their disposal to monetize their work and build a loyal subscriber base. As the creator economy continues to flourish, Jetpack is well-positioned to support creators in their journey to success.
