Meta AI incorporates Google Search results into its platform

Meta AI, the popular AI assistant, has announced that it will now incorporate Google Search results into its platform. This makes Meta AI the first AI assistant to include search results from both Google and Microsoft. While the integration with Microsoft Bing was already launched in September, this new addition of Google Search results is a significant development.

The incorporation of Google Search results is a logical move for Meta AI. As AI chatbots, virtual agents, and AI answer engines continue to rise in popularity, traditional search traffic is predicted to decline. Gartner, a prominent research and advisory company, has forecasted this trend. By including information from search engines like Google, Meta AI ensures that its users have access to real-time data and accurate answers.

So how does Meta AI work with Google Search? Users can now enter searches directly in the search bar within popular apps like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. When Meta AI provides an answer, it may also include relevant search results as sources. These sources appear as tappable links beneath the answer. Tapping on the link will take users to the web, but they will remain within the Meta app.

In addition to integrating with popular social media apps, Meta AI will also make appearances in the main Facebook feed. This means that users can easily access the AI assistant’s capabilities without leaving their Facebook browsing experience.

Meta AI’s decision to include Google Search results has garnered attention, especially considering the ongoing rivalry between Facebook and Google. When asked about Google outsourcing search to another AI assistant, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, acknowledged that he wouldn’t have been surprised if they didn’t want to collaborate. However, he believes that it makes sense for Google and is good for them in terms of visibility and linking to their services.

In conjunction with this announcement, Meta also launched meta.ai, a website that brings Meta AI to computers for the first time. This expansion allows users to access the AI assistant’s features on their desktop or laptop devices.

Overall, the incorporation of Google Search results into Meta AI’s platform is a significant development in the world of AI assistants. By providing real-time data and accurate answers, Meta AI ensures that its users have access to the most up-to-date information. As AI chatbots and virtual agents continue to gain popularity, this integration with Google Search positions Meta AI as a leading player in the industry.
